Sandbox for Eclipse is a minimal, bare-bones version of Eclipse. Inspired by text editors like Atom and Visual Studio Code, we stripped the Eclipse IDE down to the essentials. The idea is to build a user-friendly, lightweight text editor on top of it. Missing features for decent text editing will be added step by step and based on your – the users’ – feedback. The Eclipse Sandbox is lightweight and fast to install, and it will put you back in the driver’s seat when it comes to deciding what functionality is really necessary.

And we are all Eclipse enthusiasts—well, almost all of us…! We have been Contributing Members of the Eclipse Foundation since 2011. We are Project Lead for the Eclipse Marketplace Client, and our co-founder Leif Geiger is the package maintainer of the Eclipse IDE for Java developers. With over half a million downloads every month this is the most used Eclipse IDE package. Our strong commitment to open-source software and the Eclipse community includes being on the steering committee of the Eclipse IDE Working Group, as well as working on improvements for the Eclipse IDE, especially its UI and UX. That’s why we are building a new Chromium integration for Eclipse.  Put simply, we aim to enable developers worldwide and help them build software better.
